Julie Oparka, Library Assistant with the Lapeer District Library Julie will present a demonstration of the library's genealogy resources, including how to access Ancestry Library Edition, My Heritage Library Edition, and other digital sites. She will also talk about the library's local history reference collection, the County Press newspaper, and other reference services for genealogy researchers.

PICNIC. This will be a “pot luck” dinner starting at 6:00 PM. Please bring a dish to pass, table service and a beverage.

Tonya Stock, master gardener, will be present and give a brief history and tour of the Medical Care Facility Pavion gardens after eating.

Guest speaker Richard Hill, program on “Genetic Genealogy Today.”  Explore the basics of genetic genealogy and the three main types of DNA tests. Compare the strengths, limitations, and features of five leading testing companies. Learn about third-party tools to get even more from your results.

Please join us for an hour or so as our members and guests share an artifact or present a topic related to genealogy. A time limit may be needed depending on how many people plan to speak. 

Participation is optional — you are welcome to attend simply to listen and enjoy the presentations.

Artifact Ideas: photos, books, family Bibles, military documents or medals, jewelry, ancestor letters, journals, household items, and similar pieces.

Topic Ideas:

1) How to organize your historical photos

2)  How you solved a “brick wall” research challenge

3) Tips for using new features on the Family Search website

4) Resources available at libraries in Flint or Lansing, Michigan
