The Lapeer County Genealogical Society is a non‑profit 501(c)(3) organization, founded in 1980 in the state of Michigan and dedicated exclusively to charitable and educational purposes. The Society is entirely volunteer‑run and funded through membership dues, donations, store sales, and research services.

The Research Center is open to the public at no cost and is staffed by experienced volunteers who can guide you through our research collections. Many of these resources are not available online, including:
- Historical atlases and plat maps
- Local history books for towns and townships
- Donated family history books
- Works by local authors
- Newspapers on microfiche, along with an index of names from the earliest issues through the 1950s
- Lapeer Legacy newsletters
- A large obituary collection
- Vital records (birth, death, and marriage)
- Cemetery records
- Landowner indexes
- Federal census records
- And much more
A visit to the Research Center is well worth your time if you are researching local history or exploring your family’s roots.
